Secret Diet Food? Believe it or not... it's only 100 calories and high in fiber and... It's Pears!

Eating just one juicy fresh pear with the skin on will put you well on your way to meeting your fiber needs each day, according to the newly-released Dietary Guidelines for Americans. At about the size of a tennis ball, one medium-sized pear, (at just 100 calories!) has nearly 5 grams of fiber or about 17 percent of the recommended daily intake for most adults.

PORTLAND, Ore., March 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Eating just one juicy fresh pear with the skin on will put you well on your way to meeting your fiber needs each day, according to the newly-released Dietary Guidelines for Americans. At about the size of a tennis ball, one medium-sized pear, (at just 100 calories!) has nearly 5 grams of fiber or about 17 percent of the recommended daily intake for most adults.

Released in January, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans make it clear: we need to make wiser food choices for weight control and better health. Specifically singling out fiber as lacking in the average American diet, the guidelines recommend significantly increasing fiber consumption, and eating more fiber-rich fruits and vegetables.

In fact, the new guidelines recommend eating more fruits and vegetables than any other food group -- five cups, about 10 servings per day for starters, or about half our plate. Although grains are often touted for their fiber, pears actually provide more fiber per serving than most whole-grain foods and many fruits. Providing nearly 17 percent of the new guidelines’ daily fiber recommendation of 28 grams per 2,000-calorie intake), pears are the first fruit listed in the guideline’s appendix of top fiber sources.

It's A Low Fat Diet You Need

Often what you call low fat food is high in sugar, low fat diet is what helps cut fat intake

While a recent research has shown that cutting all fat from our diet doesn't necessarily help us lose weight, there is a moderate road to follow for health and long-term weight maintenance. Instead of replacing high-fat foods with low-fat (and higher sugar) versions of those same foods, follow our guidelines for a satisfying low-fat diet.

Set a goal of eating 15 to 25 per cent of your total calories from fat: For a 1,200 calorie diet, eat 20 to 33 grams fat; For a 1,500 calorie diet, eat 25 to 42 grams fat; For an 1,800 calorie diet, eat 30 to 50 grams fat.

Foods to toss
Cookies, candy and snack cakes - even if they're fat-free! No matter the fat count, these treats are high in calories and you'll have to eat a lot of them to feel full. Chips, tortilla chips and snack crackers. All of these foods are fried, meaning they soak up fat. Fried shrimp, french fries, onion rings, fried fish fillet - anything fried! Pizza and similar frozen snack foods. The cheese and meat add on tons of fat. Red meat and prepared meat products such as sausage or bacon.

The Brie and Merlot Diet

Dr. Atkins plied us with bunless burgers. The South Beach Diet insists that ricotta cheese with lemon extract and no-cal sweetener is a fine dessert. Diets work, but after a while a person gets tired of skimping. This explains the runaway sales of Mireille Guiliano's new book, French Women Don't Get Fat --a title any American who has roamed the streets of Paris recognizes as a mysterious truth.

American tourists watch French women stroll into patisseries, buy chocolate at Jeff de Bruges and wine on Rue Cler, and have lunch complete with baguette--and wine, and a tart. The next thing they notice is that these women, many middle-aged and beyond, are not wearing elastic-waist pants from Chico's. They conclude the French are blessed with souped-up DNA that lets their thin-thighed bodies metabolize lunch before dessert hits the table.

The real reason only 10 percent of French adults are obese--a slim statistic next to 30 percent of adult Americans--is attitude, along with common sense.

The Diet Debate Ended

Which diet is the best? ALL of them and None of them. There is no one diet for everyone. We are all different. Learn how to easily know what is right for you.

(PRWEB) February 28, 2005 -- Which diet is the best? ALL of them and None of them. I am going to let you in on a little secret. It often shocks and disrupts people’s world, but you need to hear it. You ready? Everyone is different.

“Everyone is different,” something everyone knows but yet no one really takes into account when dishing out recommendations and advice. The reason why all diets work is because they work for at least one person, usually the one telling everyone else about it. And the reason none of the diets work is because no one diet is right for everyone. So what do you eat? I have made it really simple. Eat whatever you inner knowing tells you to eat as long as it is fresh and pure. That is all you have to do. The answers that suddenly become relevant are to the questions of what is fresh and pure and how does your inner knowing tell you what to eat?

Great Diet News - Clue to Controlling Appetite Found

Diet Discovery could one day lead to weight-loss pill in humans

(HealthDayNews) -- For folks who have long wished that losing weight was just a matter of popping a pill, Johns Hopkins scientists report they are one step closer to finding a way to control appetite.

Injecting an enzyme that blocks fatty acid synthase (FAS) into the brains of mice acts on certain brain chemicals and results in decreased appetite, thereby reducing body weight, they report.

"We have been working on this control of food intake," explained lead researcher M. Daniel Lane, a distinguished service professor in the Department of Biological Chemistry. "Five years ago, we found a compound that we call C75 blocks food intake."

Diet and Weight Loss Myths Blasted

The onset of bathing suit season has a way of resuscitating our No. 1 New Year's resolution: Go on a Diet and Lose Weight.

Beach-bound or not, it's a worthwhile goal, since excess weight not only increases our risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, stroke and cancer, but also compromises our psychological welfare: Being overweight lowers self-esteem and heightens vulnerability to anxiety and depression. And with more than one of every two U.S. adults now considered overweight, one in five of them obese, health officials have declared the problem an epidemic of crisis proportion.

One reason Americans can't slim down? We have fundamental misconceptions about how to do it. Test your weight-loss IQ by labeling the following statements TRUE or FALSE, then learn the truth from the experts.

Your Diet and Calories 101: the simple science sheds light on shedding weight

Sure, you can lose weight on a low-fat diet, on a low-carb diet, on a liquid diet, on the cabbage soup diet. Even the federal government says so in its new dietary guidelines released last week.

But get real. In your heart you've known all along what the guidelines conclude: Fuhgetaboutit.

If you want to lose weight and keep it off, you've got to take in fewer calories than you use up.
Yes, calories. How retro.

When you restrict food groups, the reason you lose weight is because you're cutting calories by restricting your choices. Face it, you can eat only so much grapefruit and boiled eggs.

Dieting and Weight Loss Stalled? Your Hormones May be to Blame

Hormone imbalances can make it difficult and sometimes even impossible to lose weight.

(PRWEB) -- You've tried and tried to lose weight - low cal, low fat, no fat, juice fasting, cabbage soup, you name it, and nothing seems to work. Oh, sure, you lose five pounds the first week - everyone does at the start of a new diet - but after that things just seemed to stall out. No matter how hard you try, the scales stop moving early-on. After a week or two of this you give up again. Those five "lost pounds" come back and bring a few more of their friends with them. The diet - lose - stall - regain cycle gets repeated over and over. For many people, life means constant dieting but never coming anywhere near their goal weight.

Like most people, you are probably convinced that your lack of dieting success is not from lack of trying. You may have wondered if there was something wrong with you that keeps you from being able to lose weight - something like your hormones. If this thought crossed your mind, there's a good chance you are right. Recent research presented in a new book by noted bariatric physician Dr. Dana Myatt shows that it may indeed be your hormones, not simple lack of willpower, keeping you fat.
